On June 27, 2001, Pope John Paul II beautified the Holy Martyrs of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church (UGCC) of the 20th Century.

The Icon of Christ’s 27 Holy Martyrs, along with the Icon of Blessed Priest and Martyr Emilian Kowcz, was commissioned for St. George’s Ukrainian Greek Catholic Cathedral in 2013. The Icons were written by Anna Mycyk, a parishioner of St. George’s Cathedral, and sponsored by the Worobetz Foundation and the UCBC-Bishop Roborecki Branch of St. George’s Cathedral. The Icons will be blessed on Sunday, December 3rd, after the 10:00 a.m. Divine Liturgy and installed above the two new corner side altars.

Icon of the Mother of God of Zarvanystia

As well, on this Sunday, December 3rd, St. George’s Cathedral will welcome the Icon of the Mother of God of Zarvanytsia from Ukraine, donated by the Krushelnytskyy family.

The small town of Zarvanytsia is well known for the miraculous Icon of the Mother of God and has become the pilgrimage center of Mary’s worship (Марійське почитання) in Ukraine.

We will also be blessing this Icon of the Mother of God of Zarvanytsia after the Divine Liturgy.

We welcome everyone to join us for this ceremony of the blessing of these 3 icons.
