The first Ukrainian Catholic Church in Regina was built between 1925 and 1928. Prior to this, Divine Liturgies were celebrated in Blessed Sacrament Roman Catholic Church (then called St. Mary’s).
The church building was consecrated in 1939 by Bishop Basil Ladyka and was used until 1960, when it was dismantled to make way for a parking lot beside a new, beautiful church. During this period of growth, a new rectory and an education centre-hall were constructed in 1968 and 1978, respectively.
St. Basil Parish serves as the seat of the St. Basil & Montmartre Pastoral District and provides spiritual and pastoral care to the following parishes: Montmartre, Ss. Peter and Paul; Candiac, Descent of the Holy Ghost; Grenfell, Ss. Peter and Paul; Weyburn, Holy Trinity; and Tribune, Holy Family.
