The last thing you’d ever imagine happening to your loved one is to wonder if they would survive a hospital bombing.
Tragically, that was the case when a Russian subsonic cruise missile struck Okhmatdyt, the largest children’s hospital in Europe, this past July. It hit a two-storey toxicology department where children undergo dialysis. The building’s roof collapsed and two hospital workers were killed.
This news was devastating, yet CNEWA stood ready to support our partners overseas by raising important funds to re-locate patients from Okhmatdyt. With your help, we wish to fund up to 10 hospitals – with medical equipment, transportation and hygiene products – at a total cost of $600,000 CAD.
Can you help us offer life-saving medical assistance for Ukrainian children?
Since our last update on Ukraine, The Rosary of Unity project, first funded by CNEWA in 2022, has shown great impact. This prayer initiative has supported pastoral and social initiatives of the religious sisters and priests through the making of these handmade rosaries by the sisters. Funds collected were used for church ministry and education and, local communities for people during the war.
As a sign of our unwavering support, CNEWA Canada is offering a limited number of Ukrainian rosaries to donors across Canada. These rosaries are a powerful tool for us to pray for peace, while supporting their work. For donations of more than $100, donors can request a rosary from our office (see the donation slip).
Fr. Lubomyr Yavorskiy, director of the Patriarchal Foundation Mudra Sprava who runs a project for the Rehabilitation of military families has been troubled by the war.
“Today, Ukraine is wounded in the human soul,” he said.
“We see how people can turn pain into strength, and wounds into resilience.”
With a world growing weary over continued support for a war in Ukraine, CNEWA is pushing forward with more resources to care for the poor, the injured and the forgotten.
Just as Jesus Christ multiplied the small offering of bread and fish to feed thousands, your contributions to CNEWA’s Ukraine program are magnified through the dedication of our partners overseas. This important story from sacred scripture reminds us that every gift, no matter how large, holds immense potential to bring about impactful change.
Thank you for considering a life-changing gift and for making God’s love known in Ukraine.
