Re: COVID-19 Update: Eparchy of Saskatoon – Effective September 13, 2021: Masks are Mandatory for all Persons Attending Divine Liturgies at Ukrainian Catholic Churches in Eparchy of Saskatoon

To All Faithful in the Eparchy of Saskatoon:

The COVID-19 Committee for the Eparchy of Saskatoon, with Bishop Bryan present, has met on September 11, 2021 to discuss the current situation.

Typically, we approve and promote what the Provincial Government tells us is the best course of action, but we feel that because of the upcoming election that the government does not wish to say anything unpopular and therefore is not changing the masking rules.

Previously when the infection rates were this high the government introduced restrictions. We feel that due to the increased number COVID-19 cases in Saskatchewan that it would be prudent to implement mandatory masks for all persons attending Divine Liturgies. We are not insisting on tracking and collecting telephone numbers. We are not asking for people to register in advance since there is no limitation to the number of people who can be in church. This is effective Monday, September 13, 2021.

Yours in Christ,

Very Rev. Father Janko Kolosnjaji,
Vicar General and Chancellor for the Eparchy of Saskatoon
for Eparchy of Saskatoon COVID-19 Committee
