Catechetical Educational/Ministry Co-ordinator

Reports to:                 Parish Priest

Job Purpose:               To work with the Parish Priest and Catechist Team with particular

responsibility for developing, supporting and co-ordinating catechetical and sacramental programs to facilitate growth in the spiritual, educational and catechetical life of the parish.

Contract Type:            Reviewed Annually

Salary:                         $17/hour

Hours of Work:           4 hours per week (The job description is too robust for a 4 hour per week position so discernment will be required to prioritize responsibilities.)

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. To co-ordinate, promote, advocate, provide resources for curriculum development and organize catechetical programs in the parish for children, youth & adult programming, including but not limited to: Catechism classes, parent talks, pilgrimages, retreats, camps, feast day celebrations, Lenten programs, altar servers, special events,
  2. To undertake administration tasks such as registration forms and record keeping.
  3. To work and liaise with the safeguarding representative in the Parish to ensure compliance with the Eparchy Safeguarding Policy/Covenant of Care.
  4. To support, collaborate and communicate with parents.
  5. To prepare annual calendar of events
  6. To prepare and present annual programming budget to Parish Council for approval.
  7. To apply for grants, organize other fundraising activities, and soliciting for donations, as required.
  8. To identify, empower, co-ordinate and support the Parish Catechist Team in the recruitment, fostering of vocations, ongoing training and personal formation of all the volunteer catechists.
  9. To meet monthly with catechists to review, prepare and develop programs and to ensure responsibilities are carried out.
  10. To communicate with and report to the Parish Priest and Education and Youth Committee Chair on a regular basis.
  11. Other related duties, as required.

 

Eligibility, Criteria & Qualifications:

  1. Practising Ukrainian Catholic with a good understanding of the social and moral teachings of the Ukrainian Catholic Church.
  2. To be an active participant in liturgical celebrations and parish activities.
  3. Working knowledge of English and Ukrainian.
  4. Recent experience in Parish catechesis or youth ministry.
  5. Excellent organizational, communication and time management skills – able to prioritize and meet tight deadlines.
  6. Self-starter, showing initiative and ability to work with minimal supervision.
  7. Able to work within a team, motivating volunteers.
  8. Program delivery and presentation skills and experience working with children, youth, young adults and adults
  9. Thorough understanding of safeguarding principles.
