Teachers and Staff Gather to Celebrate New School Year

About 2,000 Greater Saskatoon Catholic Schools (GSCS) teachers and staff will fill the Cathedral of the Holy Family for the school division’s annual opening day celebration on Friday, August 30. The celebration is the one time during the year that all staff members gather as a community for inspiration as they begin a new school year.

When:    Friday, August 30, 2019
8:30 am – Mass
10:00 am – Break
10:45 am – Remarks from Board Chair and Director of Education
11:30 am – Keynote Speaker

Where:  Cathedral of the Holy Family, 123 Nelson Road

GSCS Board of Education Chair Diane Boyko and Director of Education Greg Chatlain will address staff, followed by keynote speaker Ansel Augustine—who is making his first visit to Canada. Augustine is the director of Black Catholic Ministry of the Archdiocese of New Orleans, Louisiana, and faculty member at Xavier University of Louisiana. He also serves on many boards related to Catholic youth and young adult ministry.

The opening celebration is the final work day before students return to school. Classes begin for both elementary and high school students on Tuesday, September 3.
