Today the Holy Father greeted pilgrims in Rome who were there as part of the Jubilee celebrations specifically oriented toward the Eastern Churches in union with Rome. The Ukrainian Catholic Church is the largest of the twenty-three non-Roman Churches that are Catholic – in union with the Roman Church and recognizing the authority of the Pope – while possessing self-governance and their own ritual, theological, and spiritual traditions. 

He called for peace in our ancestral lands and for the preservation of our Churches, saying that the the eastern churches had much to teach the western world. He also called us to resist worldliness and power.
