Friday-Saturday, July 5-6, 2019, the International Conference “Catholic Education: Systems, Experience, Prospects” was held at the Lviv Seminary of the Holy Spirit in Ukraine. The conference was devoted to the 100th Anniversary of the passing of the Blessed Mother Yosafata Hordashevska, co-founder of the Congregation of the Sisters of Servants of Mary Immaculate (SSMI). About 200 catechists and Catholic teachers from all the eparchies of the UGCC of Ukraine, Poland, Serbia, England, Spain, Italy, the USA, Canada and Brazil spoke about the pedagogical heritage of the UGCC in the field of Catholic education. Along with the profound theoretical part, various workshops were offered on contemporary catechetical teaching methods. Also, the new general catechetical program of the UGCC (grades 1-3) was presented at the conference, and all the present had an opportunity to participate in its discussion. Separately, the updated Internet portal of the Patriarchal Catechetical Commission (PCC) of the UGCC was presented – www.ct.ugcc.ua.
At the invitation of the Patriarchal Catechetical Commission, we had the opportunity and honour to present our Ukrainian Bilingual Program from Bishop Filevich Ukrainian Bilingual School in Saskatoon, SK, and speak about religious education which is taught there. All the participants showed high enthusiasm and interest, which was manifested in a variety of questions and loud applause. Participants of the conference were also presented with a video about the school, prepared by Sister Georgia Shchavil, SSMI and Viktoriia Marko. (Watch the video presentation below.)
