Catholic Education Week May 22-29, 2022

In joy and thanksgiving, we, the Catholic Bishops of Saskatchewan, invite you to join us in recognizing the gift and the impact of Catholic education as we mark World Catholic Education Day on May 26, 2022, and celebrate Catholic Education Week in our province from May 22 to May 29.

This year’s theme is “Catholic Education: Rebuild, Restore, Renew Together.” As educators, students, and families around the globe deal with many challenges – including the ongoing effects of the pandemic – this is a time where educators and parents are adjusting and giving in unprecedented ways. While this time features difficulty and even hardship, it is also a time of reflection and new opportunity.

Catholic Schools have a proven track record for excellence in all things, and a commitment to nurturing love (caritas), community (koinonia), and caring service (servitus) through staff who give tirelessly for the future of our children. We pray that all involved in supporting the education of our young people – families, teaching, pastors and parishioners, the larger community – will be renewed in being examples of Christian virtue and the love of faith that seeks wisdom and service.

In this sense, Catholic education seeks excellence: an excellence which involves developing and bringing to bear all young peoples’ gifts and abilities to be excellent disciples of the Lord as they humbly serve God’s plan to make the world a better place and seek our ultimate destiny.

We join together in giving thanks to God for the gift of Catholic education and its unique contribution to our province and our communities. We pray in thanksgiving for the continuing existence and protection of publicly-funded Catholic education in Saskatchewan, and for God’s abundant wisdom and blessings on educators, students and families as we continue to live the identity and mission of Catholic faith-based education in our province.

May we continue to model Christ: “… the Way, the Truth and the Life…,” (John 14:6) and develop the head and the heart so that we may serve our brothers and sisters seeking, “… a new heaven and a new earth.” (Rev. 21:1)

Sincerely Yours in Christ,
