Our Youth Zabava is over. This event has left sweet feelings in each young heart because it was GREAT, UNFORGETTABLE and EXCITING!!!

On the evening of Saturday, May 5, 2018, over thirty young people were gathered together as one big family at St. George’s Ukrainian Catholic Cathedral auditorium in Saskatoon. They had lots of fun, as well as experiencing many new and useful things through the many activities throughout the evening. Each person was greeted with bread and salt on a rushnychok, tasting the bread and drinking some “Ukrainian kvas” (a special Ukrainian drink). Also, no one was permitted to join the Zabava without the password: Slava Ukraini! Heroiam Slava!

Fr. Ivan Nahachewsky began the evening activities by playing his Bandura and giving an extraordinary spiritual message for the youth, followed by nourishing and delicious Ukrainian supper. Then young people participated in various activities: Ukrainian doll making, woodcarving, gingerbread decorating and face painting. Everyone burst into laughter during the different Ukrainian competitions and had an amazing time dancing together.

The Ukrainian Catholic Youth Ministry would like to say “SINCERE THANK YOU” to everyone who assisted in organizing this event:

St. George’s Cathedral for the use of their church auditorium and kitchen; the UCWLC Branch of St. George’s Ukrainian Catholic Cathedral for donating the perogies, paskas and other supplies, and their 2 members, Chris Pidwerbeski and Iris Owchar for giving of their time and efforts in the kitchen for our Zabava. To the St. George’s parents of our young people who prepared delicious Ukrainian food: (Lubka Seman, Khrystyna Zino, Maria Tepla and Natalia Shevchenko). To Fr. Janko Kolosnjaji, Fr. Ivan Nahachewsky and Sr. Georgia, ssmi, for giving their spiritual and organizational support.  As well as to Natalia Harmasar and Oleh Drozdovsky who led the doll making and wood carving activities.  There were many young people who decorated the basement auditorium and were involved in leading competitions, dancing and other activities.

Each of you has made a unique contribution into encouraging our eparchial “yeast”- our wonderful youth to grow!!! Thank you!!!
