The first Ukrainian settlement in what would become the province of Saskatchewan was established in Grenfell in 1891. This early settlement was short-lived, but by 1923 there were sufficient Ukrainians in the area to justify the establishment of a parish. Until this time, Ukrainian Catholics attended the local Roman Catholic church.
The Church of Ss. Peter and Paul in Grenfell is served by clergy from St. Basil Parish in Regina.
The information presented here is drawn in part from the work of Anna Maria Kowcz-Baran, Ukrainian Catholic Churches of Saskatchewan, published in 1977. This monumental historical survey is available for purchase at the Musée Ukraina Museum for $20.00.
