 Consent to Election of Fr. Vladimir Hrutsa, C.Ss.R.

 to Auxiliary Bishop of the Archdiocese of Liviv of the UGCC

VATICAN CITY, 14 JAN 2016 (VIS) – The Holy Father:

– Has given his consent to the canonical election by the Synod of Bishops of the Greek-Catholic Ukrainian Church of Fr. Volodymyr Hrutsa, C.Ss.R., as auxiliary bishop of Lviv (area 3,767, population 1,067,200, Catholics 730,525, priests 468, permanent deacons 4, religious 513), Ukraine.

The bishop-elect was born in Dobromyl, Ukraine in 1976, gave his religious vows in 2000 and was ordained a priest in 2001. He holds a doctorate in dogmatic theology from the University of Innsbruck, Austria and has served in a number of roles within his congregation, including director of studies of the Province of Lviv and master of novices of the same province, and lecturer of dogmatic theology at the Catholic University of Ukraine, the major seminary of Lviv and the seminary of Basilian fathers in Bryukhovychi.

Biography of. Vladimir Hrutsa, CSSR
Born August 19, 1976 in the city. Dobromyl in Lviv.
August 19, 1994 he entered the Redemptorist novitiate.
August 19, 1995 made first vows.
19 August 2000 – lifelong vows.
July 12, 2001 – Bishop ordained a priest Andrei (Sapelyak).
 Philosophy studied in the city. Krakow (Poland), and studies in theology attained. Tuhiv (Poland) and the city. Innsbruck (Austria), where he received a master’s degree. Theme of master’s work: “Theology in the Great Sabbath Hans Urs von Balthasar and his understanding of the Ukrainian Church.”
 After a pastoral year again aiming for continued theological studies to the city. Innsbruck, where in 2008 the local university received a doctorate in dogmatic theology, especially the Sacraments. Thesis: “Holy Sacrament of Penance in the light of the Resurrection of Christ.”
 During his stay in Innsbruck worked and then headed Pastoral Consultation Center, which is a joint project of religious congregations and local churches.
 In 2009-2013 served as director of studies at the task Lviv Province of Redemptorists. Now is the master of the novitiate.
